FAQs

What is a hackathon and what can I expect from it?

A hackathon is a collaborative event where people come together to solve problems using technology. Work in teams to brainstorm, design, and realise a project over 24 hours, with each creation presented to a panel of judges. Prizes are awarded to the winning teams and mini-events / workshops run throughout. Hackathons are a great way to challenge yourself, learn new skills, and have a great time with new people!

What should I bring to the hackathon?

Bring your laptop, charger, any hardware you might need, a valid physical government-issued photo ID (driving license, brp, passport, etc), and any other tools or resources you would like. We also recommend bringing a change of clothes, toiletries, and anything else to stay comfortable during the event. Food and drink will be provided, but you are welcome to bring or buy your own if you prefer.

How do I register for the hackathon?

We'll have a registration form available on this website.

What are the eligibility criteria for participants?

You need to be a university student and 18+, but apart from that anyone can join!

When and where will the hackathon take place?

The hackathon is set to take place in early November 2024, in Greater Manchester. We are still confirming venue details and will update you as soon as possible.

Are there any travel reimbursements or accommodations provided for participants?

Most likely not, but we are working on securing sponsorships to provide travel reimbursements and accommodations for participants. If we do have a budget for this, we will let you know as soon as possible and open applications for travel reimbursements and accommodations.

What is the format of the hackathon (online/offline, duration, etc.)?

The hackathon will be held in-person and will last for roughly 30 hours (running overnight on the weekend). The actual hacking time will be 24 hours.

How does the competition work?

There will be a set of challenges or themes available for you to base your project around. Each challenge has its own set of rules, judging criteria, and expected outcome/delivery provided by the challenge setter (sponsors, societies, the organizing team, etc.)
