Getting started
GreatUniHack is the University of Manchester's student hackathon, run by UniCS. Over 30+ hours across 7-8 November 2026 you team up, build a project from scratch, and present it to a panel of judges - with workshops, mentors, food and prizes throughout. It's a great way to challenge yourself, learn new skills, and meet new people.
You need to be a current undergraduate or postgraduate student at any university, and to be 18 or over. All levels of ability are welcome, so come and have a go!
Nope! GreatUniHack is completely free thanks to our sponsors and partners. No registration fee, no hidden costs.
You don't need a team to apply, and everyone applies individually - even if you already have a team in mind, each person still submits their own application. If you don't have a team yet, you can meet people and form one on our Discord before the event, or join up with others when hacking begins on the day.
Click “Apply as Hacker” at the top of the page and create an account, then fill in your application from your dashboard. Want to help run the event instead? Use “Apply as Volunteer”.
